CURRENT OBJECTIVES:
• To continue my life’s work as an artist, illustrator and designer.
• To receive gallery representation Seattle, Washington and Santa Fe, New Mexico.
• To continue to develop my equestrian educational center which is now incorporating The Nia Technique for equestrians.
• To continue teaching The Nia Technique (2004 certified instructor) www.niaseattle.com at community centers, fitness clubs and at my own studio.
• To continue my active involvement in community volunteer endeavors.

QUALIFICATIONS
My professional art career spans 27 years as a fine artist, illustrator, graphic designer, web designer, art director, and college art instructor. I offer a wide range of artistic expertise as well as teaching, leadership and team building skills. I have been a horsemanship instructor for the past eight years and a Nia Technique instructor since January 2004. All three avenues, art, movement and equestrian education, have brought me immense satisfaction and success.

In September 2002 I relocated back to Seattle to join my partner in a career change with Starbucks Coffee Company.

I am a fine artist creating, showing and selling fine art.
I freelance illustration and write for national publications such as “Horse and Rider Magazine”, “Practical Horseman Magazine”, “America’s Horse Magazine”, “The Texas Thoroughbred Magazine”, and “The Quarter Horse Journal”. As well I have done web design

I own and operate an equestrian educational center, teaching children and adults how to enjoy, understand and ride horses.

Working with staff and community focus groups I developed a series of web redesign options for Cox Interactive’s Austin-based website, Austin360.com.
1996 - 1997 Managing Art Director News and Interactive, MSNBC Interactive, Redmond, Washington
I was brought on board during the startup of MSNBC’s online new site. As an art director in this groundbreaking field, I hired, trained and developed a design staff to cover the news in an online format. I relocated to Austin, Texas to join my partner in a career change with Dell Computer Corporation.

As a news artist, designer and illustrator, I designed feature pages, section fronts, and art directed special projects and reports as well as creating editorial and feature illustrations. As a news artist and graphic journalist, I reported all areas of reported news both with graphics and writing. This included breaking news as well as technology, science, sports and health graphics.

I managed my own retail store in Beverly Hills, California for 2 years and was then promoted to the corporation where I designed and implemented sales and management training programs. I left The Gap to become an artist, illustrator and designer.

OUTSTANDING PROFESSIONAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS

1989 - 2006

Fine Art, Design, Illustration and graphic awards received 2 First Place and 2 Honorable Mention illustration awards for American Horse Publications; 1 Second Place for Mixed Media in Washington State Thoroughbred Foundation's Equine Art 2006 Show; 2 Silvers, 8 Awards of Excellence in design, illustration, graphics form Society of Newspaper Design, Reston, Virginia; 1 Second Place, third place in design and illustration from Society of Professional Journalists, Pacific Northwest Chapter.

2001 - 2002 The United Nations and Nobel Peace Prize display of Austin Community College’s student work and City of Seattle’s Art in Public Places installation.
In response to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, one week later I assigned my college students an assignment to design counter-terrorism posters with a global message and with the United Nations as their imaginary client. Upon completion, posters were requested by The United Nations to be displayed in the General Assembly Lobby and to be a part of a UN international traveling poster show where they were displayed in Oslo, Norway to commemorate the 100th anniversary of The Nobel Peace Prize. In addition, posters were displayed at Austin City Hall as a part of the city’s Art in Public Places program.

1990 Pulitzer Prize, Stokes awards team member
I participated and contributed as the lead breaking news graphics journalist on Seattle Times Pulitzer Prize award-winning team reporting on Exxon Valdez oil spill as well as graphics coordinator on Seattle Times Stokes Award and Pulitzer Prize award-winning special report on oil tankers.

TEACHING AWARDS AND GRANTS

2001 - 2002 NISOD Teaching Excellence Award Recipient
I was awarded a teaching excellence award for my work with Austin Community College illustration students from The National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD).
1991 - 1992 City of Seattle Arts Commission Artist in the Schools Grant
I was awarded grant to teach illustration for one year at Cleveland High School, Seattle, Washington. The program I designed for the students was a combination of drawing skills sponsored by Betty Edwards, author of “Drawing on the Right Side of Your Brain” and the history racial stereotypes in art. Students’ assignment was to draw upon their own experiences of discrimination and create an illustration along with a story, poem or rap song.

As a board member I participated in designing and writing a grant to bring area artists to the schools to teach art with the after school program.

A non-profit program to assist in the welfare of the lives of children.
1997 - 1999 Volunteer pet-assisted therapist with my therapy dog, Bagley, Therapy Pet Pals of Texas
A non-profit program that trains dogs and people to give companionship to people in hospitals and nursing homes.

INTERESTS AND HOBBIES

Riding, training and showing horses, studying art and dance, playing music (flute and piano), cooking, playing with my two yellow labs, watching films, going to museums, galleries, theater, dance and opera, reading, traveling, and spending quality time with family and friends.
